Abstract
The Newcastle Yabby is a species of great interest to both the academic and aquaculture community. It is a unique species with very distinctive habitat requirements that are under increasing pressure from habitat alteration. Cherax setosus is found in a high human habitation area with a human population that is increasing at 1.5-2% per year. Despite massive habitat alteration the species has adapted and is thriving. Ongoing aquatic biological surveys of NSW as part of the Australian Crayfish Project (ACP) has discovered new information on the species ecology and its distribution. The results of these surveys are discussed in this paper.
