Welcome to Australian Aquatic Biological Pty Limited’s website. AABio is a private Australian company formed to conduct aquatic research and consultancy in Australia. We are a research provider and supporter of freshwater aquatic research. Our primary interest is freshwater crustaceans and fish with a secondary interest in all freshwater aquatic fauna, flora and ecosystem health with a key theme of conservation and preservation of all our species and their fragile habitats.
AABio conducts a broad range of activities including environmental surveys, scientific research, species identification and aquaculture consultancy. Environmental and nature surveys for governmental agencies and individuals is an intrinsic part of the business. If you need to know what’s in your area we can conduct biological and environmental surveys for you. Species identification is another important role played by AABio. We identify species for museums, government agencies, corporate partners and private individuals. Aquaculture consultancy is another main business activity of AABio. Our team has been designing aquaculture farms in Australia for over 25 years. We have the knowledge and experience to assist you with all your aquaculture needs and that’s the reason that AABio is in such high demand
In 2005, the Australian Crayfish Project was initiated. This is an ongoing project to capture, identify, key and photograph every species of Australian freshwater crayfish. The initial results of this project have resulted in some publications and an increasing number of additional research projects. AABio is an organization created to increase the knowledge base on Australian freshwater species and preserve and conserve these species and their fragile habitats. The Australian Crayfish Project is just one of our projects, it has only been running for 5 years now but we have found dozens of new crayfish species or anomalies. Please get involved, if you have something unusual in your area let us know, it may be a new species.
We rely on volunteers to help with specific projects and work with Local, State & Federal Government agencies, Universities, researchers, private individuals and lots of others to increase the knowledge base on freshwater flora and fauna. Your help is always welcome, look at the Newsletters or look at the projects, we are always looking for volunteers to help us run tagging programs or survey areas looking for crayfish or other interesting aquatic species.
