ABSTRACT
The Sydney Freshwater Crayfish Euastacus australasiensis is a well known small freshwater crayfish from the Sydney region of NSW. Ongoing biological surveys of NSW by the Australian Crayfish Project (ACP) team have uncovered new populations of this species in both eastern and western drainage of NSW. The ACP is investigating the distribution of this species, as well as possibly identifying genetically distinct populations or groups of populations within Euastacus australasiensis, which may contribute information that can be used for any future taxonomic revision of this species. Euastacus australasiensis habitat, lifecycle, genetics and distribution are discussed in this paper.
