Michael Gosling from Blackrock Yabbies started as a client back in 2017 when we started helping him to find a suitable site to conduct yabby farming. A number of different rural properties were considered and finally in 2018 he purchased 100 acres at Bulahdelah NSW. It was a virgin block basically just 4 fences so he was starting from scratch. Working full time in Sydney, Blackrock Yabbies became the weekend and school holidays project.

He constructed a main water storage dam first then built his roads, sheds and connected the power etc. NSW Fisheries were very helpful and we received their approval very quickly.

Commercial Yabby Pond
Blackrock – Commercial Yabby Pond

Despite the delays and the wet weather for the last 2 years, Blackrock Yabbies is now up and running (January 2022). The first series of earthen gravity drainable, commercial yabby ponds have been constructed, they are aerated and hides have been added. They have been fully stocked with the very best yabby broodstock available and the yabbies are thriving. Further ponds are being constructed and some of his stock will be needed to stock those new ponds but he has an excess and is now selling that excess stock to the general public.
